Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini announced the recent appointment of Christopher Shorten as a deputy.
Shorten was sworn in Monday in a ceremony at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office valley station in Minden.
The appointment comes as a result of several months of testing and evaluation consisting of a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, and medical exam.
Shorten, 38, will undergo a 12-week training program to provide him with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform his duties as a jail deputy, Pierini said.
Shorten graduated from Douglas High School, obtained a bachelor of arts in Spanish from the University of Arizona, was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force and obtained a category I Peace Officers Standards and Training certificate.
He is a Minden resident.
