CHP remembers fallen officer

Law enforcement personnel and friends gathered at the Antelope Valley Cemetery in Coleville to honor fallen CHP Officer Douglas “Scott” Russell, who was killed in the line of duty on July 31, 2007. Russell, 46, was Coleville’s resident California Highway Patrol officer for 10 years until 2000 when he transferred to Placerville. He was deploying a spike strip in a high speed pursuit that day when the driver hit him with his car. The driver who hit Russell was convicted of murder in his death, and is awaiting execution.
