Smoke from Yosemite fire spotted in Douglas

Smoke from a 1,660-acre fire burning near the western entrance to Yosemite wafted into southern Douglas County earlier this week. The Carstens fire was started by an unattended campfire just east of Highway 140 near Mariposa, Calif. Hundreds of people were evacuated from their homes in the region. As of Thursday morning evacuations continued to be in effect for 50 homes. The Red Cross shelter closed According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, bulldozers and hand crews have cut a line around the north end of the fire, which is continuing to generate interior heat and smoke. …
