A teenage boy who lives in the Johnson Lane neighborhood has been identified in the vandalism of eight vehicles in northern Carson Valley on Saturday night, according to Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The identity of the suspect is not being released by the Sheriff’s Office due to his age.
Residents discovered someone had dumped paint on their vehicles when they woke up on Sunday morning.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicles were located on Clapham, Stephanie and Kim in northern Carson Valley.
Much of the paint was off-white in color, and had been poured on the back, hood and both sides of some vehicles.
One resident said he returned home at 2 a.m. driving a Jeep that later was vandalized. In some instances residents were able to wash off the paint.
The damaged vehicles include:
■ A red Dodge pickup with off-white paint on the hood and left side.
■ A 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
■ A 2005 Dodge pickup
■ A travel trailer
■ A 2003 GMC Envoy with paint on the back and roof.
■ A 1988 Ford Mustang with paint poured over the back end.
■ A 2008 Ford Mustang with white and pink paint splashed over the roof and hood.
■ A Ford Windstar with paint poured over the back of the van.
■ A 1991 Mazda pickup with paint on the back left side, windshield and front end.
In addition to the paint, someone placed small nails behind the tire of one victim’s vehicle. A lid and glass from a Mason jar was found at the scene of one of the incidents, and appeared to have fingerprints in the paint.
The perpetrator also apparently left footprints after stepping in the paint, according to a sheriff’s report issued on Monday.
One resident reported hearing their dogs barking at 2 a.m. Another resident said someone knocked on his front door at 2:30 a.m. When the resident looked out, he didn’t see anyone but heard a vehicle drive away.
The incident is still under investigation, and Brooks said that there may be further suspects identified as it progresses.
