County manager candidate field thinned down to seven

Assistant County Manager and Chief Financial Officer Christine Vuletich demonstrates the "open budget challenge" in 2012r on the county's website. The program allows participants to budget a fictional $500 in county funds to determine what priorities are important to taxpayers.

Assistant County Manager Christine Vuletich made the list of finalists for Douglas County manager.

Vuletich joins six other candidates for the job vacated by Steve Mokrohisky, who left for Lane County, Ore., last spring.

Also up for the job are Mariposa County Administrative Officer Richard Benson, Grand Island, Neb., City Administrator Mary Lou Brown, Elko City Manager Curtis Calder, Lake Havasu City Manager Charlie Cassens, Las Vegas Director of Parks & Recreation Timothy Hacker and former Midland, Texas, Assistant City Manager James Nichols.

Vuletich is the only Douglas County resident among the finalists.

Douglas County commissioners are scheduled to discuss the search at their 1:30 p.m. Thursday meeting in Stateline.

Interviews are scheduled for Aug. 4 with a community tour on Aug. 5.
