Salon celebrates 30 years of service

A La Carte Salon celebrated 30 years of business in Gardnerville last week during the Thirsty Third Wine Walk.

"It's such a great milestone for a business in Gardnerville," said salon owner Suzanne Carreau. "And what a great time to celebrate — it's June and during the wine walk."

The business was founded in 1987 by Gloria Kenyon as a small nail salon. Kenyon said it was one of the first in the Carson Valley.

Carreau purchased it five years ago and since then the business has evolved into a full service salon with hair care, extensions and wigs, nails, skin care, waxing and tanning services in addition to princess parties, bridal packages and more.

Kenyon said she is still a regular customer of A La Carte and is happy to see her business not only make it to 30 years, but to see it improve and become all she had ever dreamed.

"It's unbelievable. I never dreamed in a million years it would be so successful," she said. "Suzanne has done a wonderful job. It really is beautiful what she has done."

Carreau said the salon is a pleasant environment where guests come and enjoy a welcoming atmosphere while receiving high-quality services.

"It's a real comfortable place where everyone gets along and that shows to our clients," said hairstylist Jolly Barrett. "Clients walk in and they feel great."

"It's like a family," added manicurist Jayne Smit.

Carreau said Bunny Parker, an Emmy-award winning hairstylist, will soon be joining the family.

"I can't wait to introduce her to our community," said Carreau.

With more than 30 years of experience, Parker retired from the motion picture industry and decided working in a salon was the perfect fit.

She moved to Gardnerville from Redding, Calif. where she got in touch with Carreau, her daughter-in-law.

"I just decided I wanted to get back into the salon scene," said Parker. "What I want to do is bring the 50's hairstyle back."

Parker said most of her work will be done by appointment only. She specializes in a variety of styles and will provide services for weddings, proms, haircuts and extensions.
