Child reported dead in crash near Cave Rock

A 3-year-old child was killed Tuesday night in a three-vehicle accident at Highway 50 and Cave Rock that resulted in at least 10 injuries to occupants.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, the accident occurred at 8:50 p.m. when a westbound Cadillac sport utility vehicle crossed the double yellow line and sideswiped a GMC sport utility vehicle in the eastbound lanes, causing it to overturn. The Cadillac then careened head on into an eastbound Chrysler minivan in which the child was reportedly riding.

Several occupants of the vehicles where transported to area hospitals for unknown injuries. Two went by helicopter and eight by ground. Broadcast reports said that the victim was a 3-year-old girl in the Chrysler. The road was closed for approximately five hours for the investigation.
