The R-C Morning Report for Sept. 3

The new residents of The Ranch at Gardnerville turned out on Tuesday night to protest the approval of a multi-family residential project in their neighborhood. The zoning for the project has been in place for 10 years, but the builder is seeking several variances from the county. Town board members recommended denial of the project, which goes to the planning commission next week.

Minden may seek to purchase the old Douglas Ironworks building along Second Street, which is up for discussion at tonight’s town board meeting. The plan could include the possible abandonment of Second Street. Town Board members meet 5:30 p.m. in the CVIC Hall. The item is way down on the agenda.

A silver alert has been issued for an 80-year-old Arizona man who has been missing for three days. Weston Lachenmeier was heading from Oregon home. He was last seen driving into California from Mexico on Saturday, according to broadcast reports. He’s driving a tan 1997 Ford Taurus with Arizona license plates.

Expect hazy conditions today under sunny skies with the high near 86 degrees. The wind will pick up to 5 mph this afternoon. The high temperatures will gradually drop through the week hitting 83 or so by Monday.
