Sparkle has come to Gardnerville in the guise of a small jewelry store aimed at blinging up Carson Valley residents.
Bling for the King is a small jewelry and accessories shop that opened in June, after relocating from Carson City.
Shop owners Denise Weatherman and Brenda Flom had previously taken up residence in the Carson Mall.
“The Carson Mall allowed us to get our name out there,” Flom said. “They were really good to us there.”
As a 23-year Carson Valley resident Flom said it was good to be home.
“We wanted to get back into our own town.”
Both women came from the medical field. Weatherman is a registered nurse and Flom worked at the hospital for seven and-a-half-years.
While it may seem strange to switch a stethoscope for a sparkly necklace, Flom has enjoyed the change.
“We just wanted to open our own business,” Flom said. “It’s been great. I love working with the people and talking with them—not having that time limit.”
The name itself, Bling for the King, may seem confusing at first, but when it is explained it makes perfect sense.
“Our store is all about Jesus,” Flom explained. “We had a lot of help, and God just really made it work for us. It’s just been a lot of fun.”
As for the jewelry itself, it was Flom’s love of sparkle that inspired them.
“I’ve always been into bling, so I thought I’d take my habit and turn it into a business,” the shop-owner said. “Eventually we want to get clothing.”
They also would like to have local artists sell their work there.
The shop is targeted to all ages, and Flom said they have customers from pre-teens to 90s.
First responders and military personnel receive a 20 percent discount.
Bling for the King is located at 1504 Highway 395, Suite 4. It is open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
The phone number is 790-7562.
