The Vahalla Society will give a calico necktie party in Gardnerville May 1. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes and other novelties will be introduced.

After an illness of about 10 days, Ernest Scossa, one of the best known men of this section and a prominent resident of Alpine County, died at this place Sunday morning.

Many pitchers could have won with the performance Douglas High School's Mike McCreary gave Thursday afternoon in Minden. The senior right hander threw seven-inning distance against South Tahoe; he allowed six hits, two earned runs, struck out 12 and walked just two along the way.
