Dragonfly to host a Beer Tap Takeover, a night for beer, music and foodBeer buffs and Dragonfly fans, mark your calendars for the Beer Camp Tap Takeover; an all you-can-eat and drink Beer andamp; Food Festival slated for Thursday, Sept. 20, 6-9 p.m. at Dragonfly Restaurant andamp; Sushi Bar in Truckee. Attendees can stop in anytime during the evening and roam the food and beer stations. Taking the beer and food pairing to a higher level, each of the five delectable food items are not only paired with a specialty beer from Sierra Nevada Brewery’s Beer Camp, but created using the beer as an ingredient in each menu item as well. Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp feature beers specially crafted by brewers from across the country. The beers crafted at the annual Beer Camp event are taking over all of the taps at Dragonfly.For $38, not including tip and tax, guests will be entertained with live music by Ben Martin at this all you-can-eat and drink event. Learn to cook like a pro at Lake Tahoe’s Castle-in-the-Sky. Expanding on its cultural education program, Thunderbird Lake Tahoe now offers gourmet farm-to-table cooking classes. In each hands-on session, Chef de Cuisine Anne Wiles demonstrates ingredient selection, portion control, kitchen safety, wine pairing, accompaniments, and presentation. After class, you will graduate to the sumptuous meal you prepared, paired with specially selected wines from the famous Thunderbird cellars surrounded by a panoramic Lake Tahoe view.Limited seating remains available for 2012 classes on Monday, Sept. 24 and Monday, Oct. 22. The September class introduces the French Cuisine of Elia Whittell just in time for the anniversary of Captain George Whittell’s birthday, and October is all about a Tahoe Harvest featuring locally grown produce and meats. Featuring bluegrass music, hayrides, pumpkin painting, pie-eating contests, pumpkin bowling and other games, glow ball golf, autumn-themed spa treatments, local arts and craft fair, a beer garden with live music, and fall-flavored dining specials in Sandy’s Pub and in Six Peaks Grille, the festival offers something for the entire family. Activity passes for non-hotel guests for hayrides and other Harvest Festival activities on Saturday, Oct. 6 and Saturday Oct. 13 are available for $5 per person. Passes include access to horse-drawn hayrides, face painting, pie-eating contests, pumpkin painting and more. Activities for kids begin at 1 p.m., with the hayrides taking place 3-6 p.m. In addition, a fall artisan arts and crafts faire will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 6, noon-4 p.m. during the Harvest Festival. A variety of local vendors will display their arts, crafts and handmade wares. Von Briesen will perform her original material.An autumn celebration would not be complete without fall harvest cuisine and beverages taking a central role. Guests will find a prix fixe menu in Six Peaks Grille for $30, excluding tax and gratuity, that features scallops with pumpkin ravioli and star anise butter, or veal cheek with pumpkin potato rosti, asparagus and cinnamon port.
