Search for downed aircraft comes up empty

Searchers on the ground and in the air were unable to confirm a report by two passers-by that a biplane had crashed somewhere near the Kirman Field in northern Carson Valley.

Emergency personnel responded at about 3:30 p.m. after two motorists crossing Cradlebaugh Bridge on Highway 395 reported seeing the aircraft go down, but not come back up.

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies drove along the tract and two small places from the airport, along with CareFlight flew over the area, but saw no sign of wreckage. by 4:30 p.m. the search was called off.

Reports from the scene were that the motorists saw the aircraft go down east of the highway in their rear mirrors.
