The closure of the Gardnerville Scolari’s on Black Friday contributed significantly to a .6 percent jump in the unemployment rate in Douglas County for December.
According to figures released this morning, Douglas unemployment rate for the last month of the year was 9.6 percent.
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported that there were 140 more people out of work in December than in November, while total employment shrank by 100 jobs.
Most of Western Nevada saw increases in the jobless rate.
Neighboring Carson City also saw an increase in the unemployment rate to 9.3 percent. Lyon County, with consistently the highest unemployment in the state, climbed back up half a point to 12 percent.
