Douglas County commissioners will discuss moving up the date for salary restoration with the county’s employee associations. Under the contract that restoration wouldn’t come until July 1 of this year and Jan. 1 for the next essentially returning 2 percent of their salaries. The cost for the Douglas County Employee Association, the county’s largest would be $74,967 and comes out of the available adjusted opening fund balance.
Commissioners will also discuss what to do with a $700,053 general fund adjusted opening fund balance available for appropriation. Ideas include applying some money to the transportation plan, community grants, and the Valley Vision plan. Commissioners meet 1:30 p.m. today at the Tahoe Transportation Center in Stateline.
Douglas farmers and ranchers qualify for natural disaster assistance because the county is next door to Lyon, which was named a primary drought natural disaster area by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Hazy, sunny, east wind at 5 mph, high of 57, then hit fill down for the forecast through the middle of next week. Looks like that drought isn’t improving in the near term.
