The R-C Morning Report for Jan. 13

Two people who admitted bilking an elderly neighbor out of thousands of dollars are up for sentencing this morning in Douglas County District Court. Gardnerville residents Michael and Denise Allen, both 54 years old, will have to pay back $100,000 they took under a plea agreement.

This is the last week for judicial election filing, which closes on Friday. Then we get a lull until March when filing for nonjudicial offices begins.

Saturday’s rain ended up leaving .14 inches of moisture on the west side of the Valley. Not much of a help from the first storm of 2014 as the drought picture gets bleaker. Dry conditions will prevail for the next week at least, according to the forecast.

It will be sunny and relatively still today with a high temperature expected to hit 50 degrees and the wind out of the east at 5 mph.
