Rotary receives $30,000 for Backpack Buddies

The Minden Rotary Foundation received $30,000 on Jan. 23 for the Backpack Buddies Program from the Walmart Foundation.

The company’s Nevada State Giving Program is awarding $515,000 in grants to seven organizations located across the state.

The organization will use the funds to supplement its Backpack Buddies program that serves more than 250 children from 11 Douglas County elementary, middle and high schools.

“On behalf of the state of Nevada, we appreciate Walmart and the Walmart Foundation’s commitment to supporting organizations that are making a difference in our communities,” said Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval. “By working together, we are improving the lives of Nevada residents and continuing our state’s positive path forward.”

Twice a year, the Walmart Foundation’s Nevada State Giving Program awards grants to local organizations that address the needs for the communities they serve and make a significant social impact.

“We are committed to helping people live better and fully believe in supporting the local organizations that best know the needs of a given community,” said Gregg Treadway, Walmart Nevada regional general manager. “These seven nonprofits are making positive change in Nevada. We’re pleased to help them grow and continue efforts to fight hunger, improve access to education and more.”
