Recycled Christmas trees keep the Valley green

Start the new year off right, by going green. Douglas County Parks & Recreation has teamed up with Bently Ranch to recycle the Valley’s Christmas trees. Drop-off locations are on Waterloo Lane across from Lampe Park and at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. “It’s a good way to make use of something that usually just goes away,” said Matt McKinney, Bently Ranch general manager. “We’ll grind them up and use them in compost for our fields that will keep the Valley green for the next few years.” Until last year, the parks department used the 4,000 Christmas trees as mulch in …
