Douglas sales strong going into holiday season

October was a good month for Douglas County merchants, who raked in 6.4 percent taxable sales than the same month in 2012. According to figures released today by the Nevada Department of Taxation, Douglas County merchants made $48.1 million in taxable sales, up from $45.2 million in October 2012. For the first third of the year, Douglas is ahead 2.8 percent with $213.2 million in sales. The increase comes despite a 3.7 percent drop in the county’s largest category, food services and drinking places, to $8.9 million.
