Record cold freezes, breaks pipes

It wasn’t the coldest temperature this week, but Tuesday’s low of minus 7 degrees cracked a 41-year-old record set in 1972. On Monday morning, the low temperature plunged to minus 10 degrees, not quite as cold as the record of minus 18 set in 2009. This is the second week in a row that a new record for cold temperatures was set. The high temperature is expected rise above freezing in Carson Valley for the first time in four days today after a stretch of morning temperatures below zero.
