Youth coach charged with battery on referee

A youth soccer coach has been charged with a gross misdemeanor — battery on a sports official — in connection with an incident in October when she allegedly struck a referee after a match between two teams of under age-10 players.

Elizabeth Jean Deaton, 30, appeared Monday for arraignment in East Fork Judge Tom Perkins.

He appointed attorney Kris Brown to represent Deaton, and set her next court appearance for Jan. 8.
