Snow, rain falling in Carson Valley

Light snow is falling in Gardnerville, though it isn’t sticking to the roads. Highway 395 in Carson Valley is wet, but not slick for this morning’s commute.

Snow fell in the foothills, with an inch on the ground in Genoa. Jacks Valley Road is slushy.

Gardnerville received nearly a fifth of an inch of precipitation over the last 24 hours. Ebbetts Pass received a .6 inches of precipitation. According to snow telemetry, there are 7 inches of snow at Ebbetts.

According to NVRoads.com, chains or snowtires are required over Kingsbury Grade, Spooner Summit, along Highway 28, on Highway 208 from JackWright Pass to Wellington and on Highway 88 over Carson Pass.

There are a couple of noninjury accidents reported on the Reno freeways, including one on northbound Interstate 580 at the Mount Rose exit and another in the southbound on Highway 395 southbound at Golden Valley Road.

Scattered showers are predicted to continue through this morning before winds pick up at around 11 a.m.

Expect partly sunny skies with a high of 41 degrees. The wind will be northeast 15-20 mph with gusts of up to 30 mph in the Valley.

A lake wind advisory is in effect for Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake.

A high wind warning goes into effect at 7 p.m. for the Sierra from Yosemite to Tulare County with winds 25-35 mph, gusting to 60 mph, with 100 mph winds at the ridge tops.
