The R-C Morning Report for Nov. 20

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Sierra from Truckee to south of Markleeville, with light snow this morning increasing in intensity this afternoon and evening above 7,000 feet. Above 7,000 feet 5-10 inches of snow could fall. Higher elevation passes on Interstate 80 and highways 50, 88 and 431 could be slushy and snowpacked tonight, according to the National Weather Service. Monitor Pass was closed last night due to snow.

The rain gauge is showing a tenth of an inch fell overnight, as a storm finally made its way into Western Nevada. The National Weather Service is expecting rain through today in Carson Valley with snow above 7,000 feet. There’s a chance of snow in the Valley on Thursday behind the cold front.

Douglas County School trustees left the price of Kingsbury Middle School where it is for now, saying Tuesday night they would come back to it in January. The school and its 22-acre site has been on the market since January 2012 for $4 million. School Superintendent Lisa Noonan said the district has had some potential buyers.

Today’s forecast is for continuation of rain, with rain or snow likely tonight and into Thursday. The high today is forecast to be 53 degrees, with temperatures dropping below freezing tonight.
