The R-C Morning Report for Nov. 5

Gardnerville is proposing a fireworks display for the Dec. 5 Christmas Kickoff celebration. The proposal is for the town’s health and sanitation department to sponsor the show. There will also be a raffle for a year’s free trash service for one family. Town board members will discuss applying for the first grant for the former Eagle Gas Station for $88,700 to pay for the first phase. Also on today’s agenda is the proposed charging station for the site. Gardnerville meets starting 4:30 p.m. in the town offices.

Tonight will be Genoa Town Manager Phil Ritger’s first official meeting. The agenda is light, with an update on Candy Dance, a discussion of possible replacements for the July 4th Pops in the Park, and plaque honoring the donors for the carillon system in the town hall. Genoans meet at 6:30 p.m. in the town offices.

A couple accused of stealing $300,000 from 86-year-old man after they took over his bank account are scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning. Denise M. and Michael Gene Allen, both 54, waived a preliminary hearing last week. The Allens face charges of exploitation of the elderly, embezzlement and using personal information of another person.

The car thermometer registered 13 degrees on Genoa Lane about a mile from Highway 395. Today’s forecast is for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 55 degrees. A 5-15 mph wind out of the southwest will shift to the northeast this afternoon. It looks like we may get some weather on Thursday
