Edible Pedal bicyclists ride through Carson Valley

Bicyclists participating in the Edible Pedal 50- and 100-mile routes made their way down Jacks Valley Road on Sunday morning.

A thousand bicyclists are participating in the event, with 200 doing the entire 100-mile ride, which goes from Bower’s Mansion through the Valley and then over Kingsbury Grade to Spooner Summit and back down to Carson.

The 100-mile route travels south on Jacks Valley Road to Foothill Road down to Highway 88 at Dressler Lane and then north on 88 to Centerville, then east into Gardnerville, where they turn around at Eastern Sierra Feed, and then travel back to the west side of the Valley over Kingsbury Grade and then north along Lake Tahoe before climbing Spooner Summit and riding down into Carson City.

The 50-mile route travels to Genoa and turns around to head back up to Bowers Mansion in Washoe Valley.

A shorter ride remains in Washoe Valley. At the end of the ride is a barbecue featuring produce grown in the gardens of Western Nevada high schools.

Proceeds from the event will be given to local students and schools that are learning about sustainable agriculture and urban gardening. Beneficiaries include Douglas High School.
