The RC Morning Report for Aug. 23

It’s still smoky out this morning, thanks to the Rim fire. My unscientific determination is that visibility is under a mile today under a blood red sun.

The smoke’s so bad, it’s part of the forecast for today through Saturday. We could see a little relief this afternoon when the wind shifts to the west, but the southwest winds will be back tonight.

My Rim fire info is 12 hours old, but when it was released last night, the fire had grown to 63,366 acres and was a whopping 1 percent contained. Firefighters are calling growth potential for the fire extreme. The fire grew 47,138 acres on Thursday with 1,849 firefighters battling it.

I’ve no word that Minden’s Concert in the Park is cancelled, but seeing as the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection issued an air quality warning last night, you might want to take that into consideration.
