The RC Morning Report for Aug. 2

The gaming win at Stateline dropped nearly 25 percent in June, taking a humongous bite out of what looked like it was going to be a pretty good fiscal year. The clubs pulled in $12.5 million in winnings, down from $16.5 million in 2012. They wrapped up the fiscal year up 2.63 percent with $211.5 million.

It was warm in Minden during July, but according to the National Weather Service, the average temperature during the month was 73 degrees, well short of the 76.2 degrees recorded during the scorcher July of 1931. The record average high temperature of 98.8 degrees set in 1931, also stood. Last month’s average high was 94.5 degrees.

Looks like we survived the red flag warning without any major issues in Douglas. They had a couple of small fires up north, but nothing that wasn’t handled quickly. The Aspen fire smoke looks like it will miss us this morning, since it’s headed northeast.

Another big smoke producer is burning west of Weed. The Salmon River Complex is at 1,600 acres and 5 percent containment. Its smoke is blowing due west this morning, but a shift in the wind could bring it down here.

The forecast today is sunny and mild with the high temperature hitting 85 degrees. Wind will be out of the southwest at 5-10 mph, which might bring us some smoke this afternoon. It was a cool 43 degrees this morning.
