Get your fill at Taste of the Towns fundraiser

Buona Sera Restaurant owners Burr and Cindi Otto are cooking up a new dish to defend their best taste title at this years’ Taste of the Towns walking tour.

The Italian restaurant is one of 15 participating in the Aug. 3 fundraiser to benefit the Carson Valley Historical Society.

“We’re going to do something out of the ordinary that’s not on our menu,” Cindi said.

“Chef Tasso is definitely doing something with Mediterranean flavors We’re experimenting with a chicken dish. We might also serve a gazpacho.”

Tasting booths will be set up at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center parking lot, and tasters can walk through downtown Gardnerville sampling at participating restaurants.

“Going around to restaurants and tasting places you’ve never tried is fun,” said Grace Bower, historical society president.

“It’s a festive atmosphere walking up and down the streets meeting people.”

New restaurants on the tour are Tombstones Tap and Grill, Tiny Cakes Cupcakery, Bubba Bob’s Rootbeer and Lentine’s.

Returning restaurants are Papa Murphys, Tahoe Ridge Bistro, Buona Sera, Grill Next Door, (last year’s winner for best discovery), Overland Hotel Basque Restaurant, JT Basque Bar & Dining Room, Sharkey’s, Rancho Grande, The Market Café, Abby Jo’s Cafe Girasole and Port of Subs.

“You get so full that usually you can’t do the whole thing. You get your money’s worth,” Bower said.

“The Overland puts out such a spread you wouldn’t believe, and it’s different every year.”

Businesses participating are Margarita Man, Ruby Rose City and Saddle Clothes, Classical Glass, Country Carousel and Battle Born Wine.

“They are staying open just for us, so check them out and thank them for staying open,” Bower said.

Other categories guests can vote on are best atmosphere and best new discovery.

The voting box is at the ticket booth in the museum parking lot.

Taste of the Towns is 5 to 8 p.m.
