The cost to fight the Bison fire is up to $5.3 million, according to a federal situation report issued this morning. Fire officials have been upping that by $500,000 on a regular basis, so my bet is that it will be $5.5 million when the 9 a.m. status report comes out. Better mapping has the fire down to 24,136 acres. Down south the Carpenter fire burning at Mount Charleston is up to 25,157 acres and is 15 percent contained. That fire has claimed a half dozen structures.
A red flag warning has been issued for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today for low humidity and gusty winds. Expect southwest winds 15-25 mph gusting to 35 mph, with humidity at 9-15 percent.
It’s a little cloudy out this morning for a day that’s supposed to be sunny. I expect the winds will clear this out. We’ve got a little cool front coming through with highs in the 80s today, Friday and Saturday.
