Final budget meeting today

Douglas County commissioners are having their final budget meeting 4 p.m. today at the Historic Minden Courthouse 1616 Eighth St. The meeting is set for a half-hour. After three tentative budget hearings today’s session is mostly a formality.

Sentencing hearing

Gardnerville resident David C. Springer, 31, is up for a sentencing hearing today before District Judge Michael Gibbons. Springer faces up to 21 years in prison for stalking his ex-girlfriend and threatening a deputy. He pleaded guilty in February, but claimed later he didn’t receive a fair trial. Springer has a prison record after he was sentenced to six years in December 2008 for child abuse. He’s spent a year in jail since he was arrested in April 2012.

Sunny day

Today will be warmer with a high temperature of 74 degrees under sunny skies. The wind will be out of the east at 5-10 mph.
