Pau-Wa-Lu ninth-grader Justin Hubbard was named youth of the year by the Carson Valley Boys & Girls Club.
The announcement was made in front of a full house at the third annual Flight for Kids fundraiser Saturday night. Held in the Hutt Aviation Hangar, the event featured a performance by the Boys & Girls Glee Club. Hubbard said he’d been a member since 2006.
“The club is my second home,” he said. “It’s a place where I can truly be myself.”
The fundraiser was sponsored by the Carson Valley Inn and Nevada State Bank, Carson Tahoe Health, Raymond and Brenda Robertson, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Carson Valley Accounting, Core Construction, Model Dairy, AVK and Lynne Cauley Real Estate Management.
Advertising sponsors included Bently Enterprises and the law firm of Allison, MacKenzie, Pavlakis, Wright & Fagan.
Hubbard is one of 521 registered members of the club. On any given day there are as many as 104 children attending the club. Supporting the club, which is housed at Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School costs $250,000 a year.
