Chain controls over passes
Road controls are in effect for Interstate 80, and Highways 50 and 88 through the Sierra this morning as a storm howls into Western Nevada. A wind advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. today with winds 15-25 mph gusting to 40 mph this morning. Winds will pick up to 20-30 mph, gusting to 50 mph this afternoon.
Snow staying in the mountains
The snow levels today will be stuck at 6,500-7,000 feet. Down in the Valley we can expect a little bit of rain, but not too much. The desert valleys will see blowing dust, so be careful out on 95Alt and Highway 50 out toward Silver Springs.
It’s the first day of spring, so of course it will look more like winter for a bit. At least it won’t be snowing. Look for scattered showers before 11 a.m. and partly sunny skies. The high temperature will top out at 59.
