Obituary: Lee Sims

After a valiant fight, Lee Sims succumbed to illness on March 2, 2013. Devoted husband of nearly 51 years to wife Nancy and supportive father to Lisa, Molly and Sarah, Lee leaves behind a legacy of adventure and community involvement.

Through hard work and determination, Lee overcame challenging beginnings to become a successful family man and community leader. Born in 1929, Lee served as a Marine for 15 years, traveling the world and eventually earning a Silver Star and three purple hearts for acts of valor in the Korean Conflict. He met Nancy while stationed as a Marine Corps guard at the American Embassy in Paris. Lee served the communities of Orange County, Culver City, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Yosemite and Walker as a deputy sheriff, police detective, fire fighter, paramedic and disaster relief coordinator. He was a distinguished member of the Antelope Valley Lions Club.

Lee was curious about many things, and loved the outdoors, wildlife, camping, photography, Native American and Civil War history. A lifelong learner, Lee was also an inveterate kidder and storyteller who thrived on the company of his family and friends. He was preceded by his beloved friend and companion, Gunny. Lee leaves an enormous hole, but many wonderful memories. We will miss him. Semper Fi!
