2 flown to hospital after collision

A vehicle caught fire on Kingsbury Grade, blocking it for two hours on Thursday afternoon.

Two women were helicoptered to Reno with nonlife-threatening injuries after a collision that closed Kingsbury Grade for two hours on Thursday afternoon.

The accident was reported at 12:42 p.m. about three miles up from the intersection with Foothill Road, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Lopez.

According to the initial investigation, the accident occurred when a silver Ford driven east by South Lake Tahoe resident Pamela Tracy, 67, crossed the center line into the path of a westbound GMC driven by Gardnerville resident Cynthia Hendrickson, 59.

The GMC caught fire after the accident. Careflight landed and took both women to Renown Regional Medical Center.

Lopez said alcohol or drugs may be a contributing factor in the accident.

The main route between Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe was reopened by 2:39 p.m.

The accident is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

He asked witnesses to call 775-687-0400 with information.
