The R-C Morning Report for Sept. 4

The hiring of new County Manager James Nichols is on today’s Douglas County commissioners’ agenda. They’re asking $180,000 a year for Nichols. The following item is a request to transfer $78,500 out of the contingency fund to cover the cost of his contract. The upper end of this salary scale was $185,000.

It’s going to be a long and pricey agenda today, timing out at four hours and 15 minutes. The sheriff’s office is seeking authorization to purchase a new patrol boat to replace the old one that sank. Also the county’s water and sewer rates are coming up for a vote. Commissioners meet starting 1 p.m. at the historic Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.

Though the engineers say there’s no reason for a stop sign on Wildrose, Minden residents and town board members say they’re needed. The town will also ask the county to reduce the speed limit to 15 mph on Wildrose and Deseret.

It’s forecast to be sunny and mild today with a high temperature of 83 degrees. The wind will pick up in the afternoon, 5-10 mph.
