Cooler today, warmer on Labor Day

A red flag warning for low humidity and gusty winds expired 10 p.m. Saturday without any major fires.

West winds at Minden-Tahoe Airport gusted to 30 mph at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, blowing steadily at 20 mph or better through the day. Fish Springs saw a 34 mph gust at 4:33 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast for the rest of the Labor Day weekend is sunny with a high of 83 degrees on Sunday. Winds will pick up out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.

Labor Day will be sunny and warmer with a high near 89 and winds out of the east at 5 mph.

“A red flag warning means weather conditions can cause fires to grow rapidly in size and intensity before first responders can contain them,” forecasters said. “Avoid doing outdoor activities that can create a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting or campfires.”
