The opening for candidates to file for Douglas County clerk-treasurer closes 4 p.m. today.
As of Thursday morning there were six candidates seeking the position, which will be appointed by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
Among them is Robin Reedy, who just came off an unsuccessful effort to unseat District 39 Assemblyman Jim Wheeler in the Republican primary.
The other five candidates are Sarah Jardine, Sherry Rodriguez, Jennifer Orman, Denise Dunt and Megan LaCost.
The successful candidate will technically serve until Dec. 31 when Clerk-Treasurer Ted Thran’s term expires.
Thran tendered his resignation earlier this month to take a position as an accountant with the Town of Minden. Commissioners will have to reappoint the position after the beginning of the year.
Because Thran is the only candidate on the November ballot, if even one person votes for him, he would be able to retake his seat if he chose.
The position is officially vacant on Tuesday. Anyone interested in being considered for the position must complete an application online.
For additional information contact Cindy McMurry at 782-9056.
Requirements for the position include being a resident of Douglas County 30 days before taking office, being a registered Nevada voter, 18 years old and a citizen of the United States.
The position pays $76,013 a year with 100 percent employer paid retirement, medical, dental and vision insurance.
The new clerk is expected to be appointed at the Sept. 18 county commissioner meeting at the Tahoe Transportation Center in Stateline.
That person would have to stand for election in November 2016 for a two-year term, and would be up for election again in 2018.
