Senior citizens academy coming

A weeklong course for senior citizens about law enforcement is Sept. 8-12.

Participation in the Senior Citizens Law Enforcement Academy is limited to 50 county residents, age 50 or older, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Classes are 1-5 p.m. each day at 1038 Buckeye Road in Minden.

The academy includes training on a variety of law enforcement topics, including: uniformed patrol procedures, jail-custody procedures, criminal investigations, crime scene processing, narcotic and gang investigations, criminal justice system, criminal prosecution, court procedure, dispatch operations, identity theft and fraud prevention, law enforcement volunteer programs, fire prevention, youth services and emergency medical information.

To sign up, call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Admin Office at 775782-9900, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
