A half dozen earthquakes between 1.4 and 1.9 magnitude were located near Heenan Lake in Alpine County on Friday.
The quakes started at 9:30 p.m. and were located along Highway 89 and Highway 4 in Alpine County.
The largest earthquake was a 1.9 at 2 p.m. and was centered 14 kilometers below the surface.
Ken Smith of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno, said the earthquakes are being reviewed as they come in.
“There was a magnitude 5.9 in 1994 in Double Springs Flat, to the north,” Smith said. “These events are quite a bit west into the Sierra, of the main Range front. But we have seen activity in this area before.”
