Carson Valley is going from too much moisture in the air to not enough as the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for extreme fire danger this morning.
The warning is in effect from noon to 9 p.m., prompting East Fork Fire District officials to seek staffing reports from volunteer chiefs.
According to the Weather Service, southwest to west winds 10-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph are expected this afternoon and evening.
Humidity will drop down to 8-15 percent in the afternoon with slow recovery.
The dry winds could fan areas smoldering from Sunday and Monday’s lightning strikes into holdover fires, which could then grow rapidly.
Residents are asked to avoid activities that could ignite dry grass and brush. Anyone spotting a fire is encouraged to contact authorities with as much accurate information as possible.
