Storms building over Carson Valley

Dark clouds are building over Carson Valley as forecast thunderstorms develop over the Sierra crest this afternoon.

Parts of Alpine County have received a quarter-inch of rain already as a storm cell makes its way north. Markleeville reported .03 inches of rain fell at 1:48 p.m.

No lightning or fires had been reported as of 2 p.m.

The forecast calls for abundant moisture combining with a upper low pressure system.

Storms are expected to travel north across Western Nevada bringing heavy rains at times.

Those rains could cause minor flooding in cities and near small streams.

A red flag warning is in effect for California west of the state line, including the west slope of the Sierra south of Interstate 80, Truckee, Portola and Susanville due to a possibility of dry lightning.
