Red flag goes up third time this week

The third red flag warning this week was issued by the National Weather Service for Saturday afternoon.

A red flag warning is already in effect through 9 p.m. today. Another warning was issued for 2-9 p.m. Saturday as high winds and low humidity continue to pose critical fire danger.

On Friday morning, East Fork asked volunteer department chiefs to check staffing should there be a wildfire.

Southwest winds are expected to blow 15-20 mph, gusting to 35 mph.

Humidity in Carson Valley is supposed to drop to 5-10 percent.

Forecasters warned residents to avoid outdoor activities that can create a spark.

As of 2:55 p.m. Friday, a 30 mph wind gust was clocked at Minden-Tahoe Airport. Relative humidity is 12 percent.
