Douglas County commissioners were updated on the status for the search for a new county manager at Thursday’s county commissioners meeting.
Phil McKenney, a partner at the executive search service company, Peckham and McKenney, said there were 33 applicants for the position from 13 states and Canada.
“We’ve gone international,” he said.
Advertisements were posted throughout Nevada, California and Oregon, he said.
“More qualified applicants will come in the closer we get to the close date,” McKenney said.
Nancy Santoro, Douglas County human resources specialist, said they were not allowed to disclose applicant names because the process was not closed.
Recruitment opened on May 2. The deadline for applicants is June 16. Preliminary interviews will take place between June 17 and June 30 by Peckham and McKenney and the board of commissioners will interview recommended candidates beginning August 18.
The new county manager will not begin work until September or October.
