An improperly extinguished campfire was blamed for a fire that burned on both sides of the Walker River on Monday afternoon.
The fire off Hoye Canyon Road was first reported at 2:40 p.m. East Fork, Lyon County and U.S. Forest Service crews responded to the blaze, which was reportedly burning 500 yards along the south side of the river.
Embers caused the fire to spot across the river in some sparsely vegetated, rocky terrain where it burned slowly until firefighters were able to get air support to help douse it.
The fire was brought to heel on Monday evening.
Dry, windy conditions are forecast to continue through today.
