Members of the Tahoe-Douglas Elks and VFW Post 8583 placed flags on graves in honor of U.S. service members who’ve died for their country.
The Carson Valley Lions Club placed flags along public places this morning.
Members of the Marine Corps League’s Silver State Detachment will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stewart Indian Cemetery.
The Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Keynote speaker is Retired Maj. Gen. Cindy Kirkland, who served as the state’s adjutant general for the Nevada National Guard from 2005-2009.
A Memorial Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Happy Homestead Cemetery, 1261 Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. Cake and coffee will be served after the ceremony.
Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell will top the list of speakers at this year’s Memorial Day services at Lone Mountain Cemetery. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. Monday. Cemetery manager Tim Glancy said since this is the 150th year of Nevada’s admission to the union, the Sons of Veterans of the Civil War will participate, including firing an old cannon. Robert Bledsoe, who organizes the annual event, will be master of ceremonies and play the bagpipes at the event, which also features an address by retired Navy Capt. David Treinen.
