The R-C Morning Report for May 20

I heard a report that Spooner Summit had 3 inches of snow this morning. According to the deputies patrolling Highway 50, it’s kind of a mess. Chains or snow tires are required over Kingsbury Grade, like you could go if you didn’t have a pass. The Nevada Highway Patrol is working a noninjury accident on Mt. Rose. Be careful in the high country today.

Douglas County Republicans are hosting a candidates’ forum at the CVIC Hall 6-9 p.m. tonight. They expect candidates for lieutenant governor Mark Hutchison and Sue Lowden to be there.

A Bodie Flats man who eluded capture for nearly six months is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court this morning for an arraignment. David Gomez, 31, faces multiple drug charges in addition to those related to his absconding and capture. His attorney is seeking a global resolution.

It’s raining steadily on the west side of the Valley and we’ve had a pretty close lightning strike, too. So far my digital gauge is reading .35 inches. We’re only supposed to see a fifth of an inch the entire week, and I’ve got that beat now. Expect rain and possibly a thunderstorm today with a high near 57 degrees.
