Tim Hanifan, Justine Dale and Trent Digiovanni walked away with first place in the annual Douglas High School talent show Thursday.
The trio performed a “Saturday Night Live” comedy skit to beat out nine other contestants and win $50 gift cards.
“I would have to say it went fairly well, though after the fact I realized I forgot the funniest line in the skit,” Hanifan said. “It was a fun experience and definitely a good way to end our senior year.”
Hanifan played character Matt Foley in the skit with Dale and DeGiovanni. Foley is a down-on-his-luck motivational speaker who lives in a van down by the river.
“We were surprised we won,” Hanifan said. “Although we were the only nonmusical talent, we were also the only nontalent. We just imitated someone else’s talent (Chris Farley.)
Activities Director Karen Lamb said the talent show highlights students who normally wouldn’t have that opportunity.
“It is fun to have students showcase their talent to the whole student body and staff,” she added. “We have so many talented students, it is impressive to learn about their hidden talents.”
Jordan Peters and Mateo Christofl rapped their way into second place, and Lindsay Adams, KD Denhert and Sedona Ewbank took third place with acoustic guitar and vocals.
