The men’s ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church is at it again.
The third annual Holy Smoker barbecue and car show fundraiser is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 3 at the church.
Proceeds will go towards a memorial and veterans garden.
“We want to add a garden area at the church with stones engraved with church members names or with veterans names and their branch of service,” chairman Archie walker said. “The car show is open to everything and anything that rolls. Any works in progress, trucks, cars, hotrods, anything with wheels.”
The cost to show a car is $15 and includes one meal ticket.
On the smoker the men are cooking up 35 tri-tips that can be purchased whole, as a meal or as a sandwich.
The church’s youth group is selling water and rootbeer floats, and the childcare center is selling coffee and baked goods.
Cost for the meal is $15 for adults, $6 for children or $35 for a family of four. A sandwich only is $6.
Walker said he is hoping to have 30 to 40 cars enter.
Ribbons will be awarded to first place, second place and people’s choice.
There will also be an auto parts swap meet. For more information call Chuck Hill at 265-0548.
Food donations will also be collected to help support the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.
“It’s wonderful anytime you have a good event for the community and involve a nonprofit like ours,” Executive Director Sarah Sanchez said. “It’s thoughtful and shows how caring our community is.”
The food closet provides 25,000-35,000 meals a month to 450 families.
“Donations are the only way we can offer these services,” Sanchez said. “They’re extremely important.”
Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 1490 Douglas Ave. in Gardnerville.
