Alarm prompts school evacuation

A fire alarm resulted in the evacuation of Douglas High School on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters and deputies responded to the school at about 1:18 p.m.

Principal Marty Swisher said a belt broke on one of the compressors in the welding shop, and the smoke set the fire alarm off.

He said the students and staff reacted quickly and evacuated the building.

The alarm was reset by 1:30 p.m., and students were allowed back into the school.

In all Swisher said the incident lasted about 20 minutes.
