There was a 2.4 magnitude earthquake this morning in the Pine Nuts north of Jack Wright Pass at 6:47 a.m. today. There are no reports of damage or even any indication someone felt it. Just another day on this bowl full of geological gelatin known as the Great Basin.
The Pentacostal Church of God on Mitch Drive in the Gardnerville Ranchos is seeking a major variance at the Douglas County Planning Commission 1 p.m. today to build a 6-foot block wall around the property cut the number of parking spaces from 95 to 44 and to reduce the width of the landscaping buffers down to 6 feet. Planning commissioners will also hear about the Douglas County bicycle plan. They meet at the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St.
We may learn today whether alternative high school ASPIRE will be going to college. Negotiations were ongoing last month to find a new home for the school at Western Nevada College’s Bently Campus in Minden. The school board meets starting at 3:30 p.m.
The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a panel discussion on the margins tax, which will appear on the ballot in November. The session starts 11:30 a.m. at the Carson Valley Inn.
It will be sunny, but cool today with the high hitting the upper 40s. Expect a bit of a breeze out of the east 5-10 mph speeding up to 10-15 mph in the afternoon with gusts of up to 25 mph. The high temperature is expected to crack 70 by Sunday.
