Linda Sue Fulp ID'd as driver killed in Mono crash

Fallon resident Linda Sue Fulp, 51, was identified as a motorist killed early Wednesday at Highway 395 and State Route 167 just north of Mono Lake, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities received a report of a single-vehicle accident at 5:36 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero with significant collision damage.

Investigators believe Fulp was westbound on Highway 167, and failed to stop at Highway 395, becoming airborne, and then made a hard landing on Lundy Lake Road before rolling several times.

Fulp was trapped inside, but a passenger, Sabrina Maria Castleberry, 21, of Lancaster, Calif., was able get out. Mono County firefighters and medics cut Fulp, who was declared dead at the scene, from the wreckage.

Castleberry was treated at the scene and then transported by Mono County Paramedics to Mammoth Hospital, where she was treated and released.

According to the highway patrol, the vehicle contained multiple empty alcoholic beverage containers, and alcohol use appears to have been a factor in this fatality collision.

The Mono County Sheriff-Coroner Department will be investigating the exact cause of the driver’s death, according to CHP Bridgeport Commander Lt. Ron Cohan.

Multiple CHP personnel were dispatched with Mono City Fire Department, Lee Vining Fire Department and two Mono County Paramedic units.

“I would estimate this vehicle was traveling at over 100 mph,” Cohan said. “It appears after leaving the road it traveled over 200 feet, only touching the ground four times before landing at its point of rest. This was very unfortunate, unnecessary and avoidable collision. I’m sure this was a terrifying experience for the vehicle’s occupants.”
